ALBERT TSUKRENKO, VOLODYMYR PAKHOLYUK. “PROVOCATIVE ART AS A WAY TO STAY HONEST WITH THE AUDIENCE AND SOCIETY”

Albert Tsukrenko and Volodymyr Pakholyuk are the founders of “Khamerman Destroys Viruses” band.

“Khamerman Destroys Viruses” (“KhDV”) is a music band featuring in their performances conceptual art and theatre. They identify themselves as “the most adequate band in Ukraine” and claim their concerts to be “mass neurosis treatment sessions with a strong physical training component”.

“KhDV” are representstives of non-commercial music that stand by their ideals, reflect on conditions for Ukrainian culture and possibility to embrace diversity. What the band offers to their listeners may be regarded by the general public as provocative and defying values of the mass. But with a 22-year stage history under their belts, the band has proved to be a real legend of alternative music. How can we take advantage of the stage and creativity to talk with the public about their complexes and challenges they face? How to remain adequate in the world that seems to have lost/be losing sanity? What does the Ukrainian stage reflect? How to live 22 years on the stage and keep creating art?

That will be a straightforward conversation with Albert Tsukrenko and Volodymyr Pakholyuk moderated by Taras Hrytsyuk (NGO “Insha Osvita”).

Albert Tsukrenko is the frontman of “Khamerman Destroys Viruses”, a journalist, an executive producer in National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine, an editor in a new Ukrainian music wave “Zemlya” at an on-line Old-Fashioned Radio FM. His professional background includes positions of the chief editor in an on-line edition “Our Kyiv”, a business portal “Capital”, an informative and analytical web-source “Cultprostir”. He writes articles for a range of internet platforms.
