Volodymyr Yeshkilev (texts, voice)
MANU (electric ambient music / intelligent dance music)
Not coincidentally (and for the first time), this event will unite on one stage two enigmatic and to an extent mystical personalities of Ukrainian modern stage: Volodymyr Yeshkilev with his art-house and airy-fairy texts, and MANU with his intelligent, delicate and airy live ambient music. The theme of this performance is sensitivity and erotic – and rather not as physical, but as metaphysical experience.
Volodymyr Yeshkilev is considered to be a metaphysician of Ukrainian literature, one of the ideologists of “Stanislav Phenomenon” and a founder of Ukrainian fantasy and art-house science fiction. Some regard him as a visionary and occultist, others compare his intellectual prose with that of J.L.Borges. Volodymyr Yeshkilev says that he esteems himself neither as a visionary nor as a magician, but as “just” a modern future-oriented writer open for experiments.
MANU (Mykhaylo Balog) also seems to represent several identities, though, in fact, it is a consequence of his deep experiments – this time, in music. He may be referred to as a talented jazz saxophonist, an ideologist of a new format alternative music school – Vedel School, and a founder of an electronic ambient project MANU. Holding an academic degree in music, he has not found himself in classical music or jazz which with time also appeared to limit him. If we draw an analogy between different music styles and languages, then MANU is definitely a polyglot. He fiddles with styles, switches between instruments in a flash and focuses on content rather than form, that is on what he means to say with his music.
