Julia Mihaly is a performer from Frankfurt, Germany, who works in interdisciplinary projects, combining performing art with electro-acoustic music.  She experiments mixing her own voice with electronic sound tapping into sensors and controllers, motion sensors and instruments that modulate and expand the sound of her voice. All of that has become Julia Mihaly’s signature line. She develops her own music software, customized to the specifics of her performances, making a point of interactivity and development of electronic chamber music.

During her speech, Julia Mihaly will talk about working with voice and challenges that a composer/performer of new music can face on their creative way. In addition, she will share her memories about working with a German composer, conductor, music theorist, one of the leaders of the music avant-garde Karlheinz Stockhausen.

Mixture of different musical styles is perhaps the most characteristic feature of Julia Mihaly’s music. She was awarded by Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste (Bavarian Academy of Arts) for Best Composition. In 2016-2017, she became a resident of the State Theater of Darmstadt with her project Duo CLUBbleu. In autumn 2016, she received the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore Award for her Voice & Electronics performance. In 2015, she performed Karlheinz Stockhausen’s STIMMUNG in Suntory Hall, Tokyo. Since 2012, she’s been a member of CLUBbleu Deut, which works with electro-acoustic music in combination with Click & Cuts and Metal Death Metal.
